3 Tips to Maximize Your Productivity Working From Home
So it’s been a while now since we’ve all been self-isolating at home because of COVID-19. I always say I would rather be a positive part of your day, and that still stands true, so I won’t go on too much about it all. We have the news and social media for that :)
What I wanted to do today was come on and give you guys some tips that I’ve learned for working from home for 4 years now. I’m no expert, by any means, but I have definitely discovered a lot of tricks and gone through trial and error to find what works best for me and allows me to channel as much creativity and productivity as possible!
So without anymore rambling… Stay home, stay safe, and let me know if these tips and tricks help you out as you navigate your way through the work-at-home life!
1. SET UP A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT
This is number one for a reason! It is by far THE most important thing you can do. Set up your workspace so you don’t get distracted, because you will. If you’re lucky enough to have a spare bedroom or a home office, that’s perfect - make sure you do a thorough tidy and declutter before you start work in there! Open a window if it’s warm enough (if not, be sure to keep the curtains open, because sunlight is so important). Bring in a houseplant. Put your pets bed in there for some company.
If you don’t have any extra space, and you’re forced to work from the kitchen table or even your bed, that’s totally okay, too! You can still adjust the environment to make it work for you. Make sure wherever you are is as bright as you can make it, play some of your fave relaxed music, light a candle, and you’ll be on your way to getting focused for the day!
2. GET READY FOR THE DAY
This is another biggie that I often fail at following through with myself. You’re home every day, yes, and you can’t really leave the house, but make sure you’re still keeping up with your usual hygiene routine. Shower every day, do your makeup, and most importantly, get out of those PJ’s!
You’re gonna be tempted to get back into bed if you stay super cozy. You’re gonna decide to do housework and tidy up and watch YouTube and snuggle your dog and text your friends. You don’t have to get all business casual, but at the very least, do your hair so you won’t be tempted to mess it up by taking a nap! ;)
3. START A ROUTINE
For me my day starts like this: I wake up, make coffee, plan out my day using my Passion Planner (Use my affiliate link for 10% off!). Then I go straight into tackling my to do list. I know a lot of people like to knock out the hardest task first, but for me, I like to knock out all the easiest tasks so my to do list doesn’t look so daunting. I also like to run any errands as early as possible so I don’t have to go out the rest of the day. So if you need to venture out for groceries, the morning is a great time! I love to squeeze in a morning walk down the street with my husband now that he’s home too and the weather is nice enough. It gives us quality time together so I don’t feel as bad for ignoring him while I work.
The rest of the day will differ widely depending on what exactly you do for work and what duties you have to complete. But one tip I can give to anyone is probably the opposite of what you often hear… DON’T break things up! Take breaks, but don’t keep getting up to do dishes, put a load of laundry in, etc. You can find a thousand tasks that will take up all of your time and you’ll end up not finishing anything. Repeat that for 5 days and you’ll find yourself far, far behind.
